Prayer for Lighting the Shiva Candle

Oh God, grant us strength as we mourn the loss of ___________________. We light this candle a symbol of loss and connection, presence and absence. His/her spirit lives on with us in our cherished memories and in our hearts. 

Bless our family with light and peace. May we find comfort as we draw together in this candle's light. May _______________'s memory continue to serve as a blessing and inspiration for all of us.

We light this candle at a time of great darkness, praying that during this Shiva period, the love and caring that surround us will bring us back toward the light.
