A king sent his son to a far off land so that he could learn from scholars and wise men. The young prince studied for many years and returned to his father filled with knowledge of things in this world.
The king wished to test his son’s knowledge. He gave his son a task to perform. The prince was to take a huge rock from the palace courtyard to the roof of the palace.
The task was not without conditions: the young prince had to carry it by himself and could not accept any assistance.
The young man looked at the rock and responded, “Noble father, the rock is so big, it would take ten men to merely pick it up. How can I, by myself, be expected to carry this rock to the roof all by myself?”
“Did you not learn anything while you were away studying? After all this time, you still do not know how to lift a rock?”
The prince was saddened by his father’s words. He was not ashamed to admit to his father that he had no idea on how to accomplish the task.
The king went on to explain:
“It is indeed a great task, but the solution is actually quite simple. All you have to do is take a hammer and break the rock into small pieces,”
