TIME: 20-25 minutes

MATERIALS: Paper bag, scissors, materials for decorating: magic markers, crayons, cotton, glue

OBJECTIVES:

A. Children will increase their awareness of fear.

B. Children will increase their interactions with parent.

PROCEDURES:

Explain to the child(ren) that today they will be making monster masks. Who can tell me what a monster is? Has anyone ever seen a 'monster? Are monsters good or bad?

Provide each child with a paper bag to make a mask. Let them decorate it any way they want. They will make a monster mask.

Cut openings for eyes.

Ask children how monsters act.

Let them act like monsters for a while.

FOLLOW-UP:

Plan a 5-10 minute period immediately after masks are finished for the children to do some unstructured imaginary play with their masks on.

Encourage the children to talk about their fears and anger. Be very careful not to talk negatively about other parent.
