The First Three Days of Shiva

Our Rabbis taught: During the first three days, a mourner is forbidden to work, even if the mourner is poor and depends upon charity for support. After three days, a mourner in need could do work in private.

Our Rabbis taught: During the first three days, a mourner is forbidden to go to another house of mourning (either to a private home or to attend a funeral at a cemetery). After the first three days a mourner may go to another house of mourning. However, he is not to take   a place   among the   comforters there but   rather among those who are being comforted.

Our Rabbis taught: During the first three days a mourner is forbidden to give a greeting. After three days, a mourner may respond to a greeting, but may not give one. After seven days, a mourner may both give a greeting and respond to one, in the usual manner.
